(BUILT IN) (Icons/Graphics) Sun1.jpgWasn't it just summer?  Time is flying.  Now with Halloween behind us, we have started to see Christmas and holiday things out in every store we've been in.  The stores realize that people are going to be spending less money this year, so I think that they are just lengthening the shopping season.  Personally, I'm not ready for the cold and snow that come along with the holiday season, but time is marching on and it's now time to think about gifts for this year's holidays.  Do you give your kids a big gift or a bunch of little gifts? Or do you do a bunch of big gifts? Or do you not do gifts at all?  Post your thoughts on gift giving for your kids, relatives and teachers to Parent Chat or e-mail them to us at info@liparentsource.comWe'll be sending out prizes at random.

Something that comes hand in hand with the holiday season is giving, and we're not talking gifts.  Visit Once Upon A Treetop in Plainview and help out with their food drive and toy drive.  They will be accepting non-perishable food items through November 14 and toys through the end of December.  Don't forget to visit Parent Perks and print out your coupon for $2 off admission to open play in their Little City when you make a donation (under Kids Classes & Activities)

(BUILT IN) (Icons/Graphics) LadyonComputer.jpgHere's some exciting news.... we've made some great changes to the way that you can receive information from LIParentSource.com.  We've received so many great articles and tips from local businesses that have been posted to Parent Tips, but we've also heard from parents that these articles have been a little hard to find.  LIParentSource.com has given us the opportunity to get to know so many fantastic Long Islanders, from business owners to parents, and we want to make sure that the information that they are putting out there gets shared with everyone.  We thought and thought and just this week launched a new blog called Read Our LIPS, the official blog of LIParentSource.com.  On Read Our LIPS, you will be able to read about local news, tips and information from parents and business, product reviews, discount shopping and we're even going to run giveaways of some great products.  We want you all to participate by leaving comments, sharing our posts with your friends and even submitting your own information for us to post.  We're going to have some very exciting announcements coming up over the next few months, so keep your eyes and ears open.  In the meantime, we'll be posting some great articles to our blog that you might not have seen on our site, so bookmark it, subscribe to our RSS feed or visit the blog and read it all for yourself.  The new web address is http://longisland.parentclickblogs.com or you can click over from our home page!

We are starting right now to put together a collaborative blog for Long Island Moms and will do one for dads if we have enough interest.  If you are a mom (or dad) who can write and wants to let others know about the trials and tribulations of day to day motherhood (or fatherhood), we want to hear from you.  If you work or stay home or work from home, are younger or older, are single or married, have one child or multiple (you got the picture, I'm sure...), drop us a note at info@liparentsource.com.   We will ask that you commit to posting an original post once per week.  That's it!

Have a great week....

  Early Holiday Shopping?

(BUILT IN) (Icons/Graphics) ChristmasPackagesLadyX.jpgAre you starting your holiday shopping early? Or are you one of those people who shops sales all year long, saving up gifts for holiday time?  Whether you do this or not, here are some great ideas you might want to take advantage of.

Our friend Staci, who writes the Long Island Frugal Living column for Examiner.com, let us know about FreeShipping.org and their second annual Free Shipping Day that will be on December 17, 2009.  On this day, you can receive FREE SHIPPING from participating merchants and guaranteed delivery before Christmas Eve.  The list of participating vendors will be revealed on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 and you can visit the website to sign up for an e-mail reminder.  Or if you're super tech-savvy, you can follow them on Twitter.  If you don't want to wait until December 17 to shop, you can always visit FreeShipping.org for current free shipping offers and sign up for their free shipping coupon alerts.  For more ways to live frugally, read Staci's column here.

(Business Logos) EbatesLogo.jpgAnother way to save money that we've talked about before is Ebates.  It's a really great site so it definitely warrants a reminder around holiday shopping time, especially if you plan to do any of your shopping online.   Ebates allows you to shop the same stores you always shop gifts and other necessities, but in the end, they send you a check back.  The way it is able to work is that Ebates receives a commission from each store you shop at and splits that with you as you make purchases. Different stores give back different percentages, but every little bit counts! Plus, Ebates even gives you money for referring your friends. This is a great way to save money on almost everything so visit Ebates today and sign up, you'll be so glad that you did!

Here are some great discounts for you to use!  For more, click on over to Parent Perks....

Since you've become a parent, how many times have you gone to the movies? And I mean an actual movie that isn't made by Disney or Dreamworks and is without any animated characters? In the 7 years since I've become a parent, I can tell you that our movie attendance has been extremely limited. Not only because of my kids but because if my husband and I go to a movie alone, the cost of the movie plus the babysitter is a small fortune, as would be the alternative to take our family of four. General Mills (yes, the cereal maker) must have a mom or dad of little ones on their staff, because they seem pretty in tune to all of the above issues. They are running a fantastic campaign starting this month where if you purchase two specially marked packages of General Mill cereal, you can receive a free movie ticket!

Here's how it works. Buy any specially marked box of General Mills cereal (Honey Nut Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, Trix and Reeses Peanut Butter Puffs). Log onto generalmills.com/moviecash and enter the code that you find printed inside each box of cereal. Print your free certificate good for admission to any movie at a participating theater (click here for participating theaters). Easy, right?

What's even easier is for you to win a "Movie Moment" prize pack from us on our contest page >>>! If you win, you'll receive 4 e-movie cash certificates and one free coupon for a General Mills Cereal (prize package valued at $54).
